Father and son due are due to complete in championships this year.
Peter and Nick Ward both who train five days-a-week without fail at Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex have qualified to represent Great Britain for their age groups in championship events coming soon.
On Wednesday night The Mayor of Boston, Cllr Anton Dani and Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Skinner met with Peter and Nick at the leisure centre to talk about their training programmes and upcoming events.
Peter, aged 70, took part in his first competitive duathlon last year where he qualified in Q1 position and takes him to the GBR age group World Championships to be held in Almere Amsterdam in September this year.
The following month he took part in his second competitive duathlon which was a Qualifier for the GBR age group European Championships to be held in Punta Umbria Spain in March 2020 where he again qualified in Q1 position.
Peter said: “I have always been a keen runner but stopped to take up cycling around seven years ago mainly to keep fit, then about a year ago I started running short distances and enjoyed being back again. I decided to put both running and cycling together as one event and that’s where sprint distance duathlon evolved (10k run, 20k bike, 2.5k run).
“When I compete for GB in Spain it will be my third competitive duathlon race.”
Nick, aged 43 is taking on a Half Ironman (1900 metre swim, 56 mile bike, half marathon run) in Austria for the European Middle Distance Championships.
Nick said: “There is a lot of hard work involved in this training, but it is all worth it and I really enjoy it. My life at the minute consists of work, train, work, train but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am really lucky and very grateful to have received sponsorship by Lay-z-Spa.”
Dan Lewis, gym manager at Geoff Moulder, said: “We are so pleased to have Peter and Nick training here in our gym, when they started we did inductions for them both, discussed their needs and requirements and advised on the best machinery to assist them to improve their overall performance levels in their chosen sport.
“I would like to wish them all the best in their upcoming events and as we say here at the centre ‘go and smash it’.”
The Mayor and Leader also wished them both their very best in their future sporting events.
Peter is also seeking sponsorship, if any individual or business out there who has an interest in sponsoring Peter in his events please email him at firstname.lastname@example.org
